11i recent install
I get the following EMS message mailed to root:
/storage/events/disks/default/8_16_5.2.0 is >= 3.
Its current value is SERIOUS(4).
Event data from monitor:
Event Time..........: Sat Jan 18 14:17:43 2003
Severity............: SERIOUS
Monitor.............: disk_em
Event #.............: 100776
System..............: pilot
Summary:
Disk at hardware path 8/16/5.2.0 : Software configuration error
Description of Error:
The device was unsuccessful in processing the current request message
because the message contained an invalid field in the command data block.
The request was not processed.
Probable Cause / Recommended Action:
The error most likely indicates that the device is not fully supported by
the current driver. This may or may not cause a problem in the operation
of the device.
The CD ROM in STM is Green with Verify successful.
The cd rom is on the in built SCSI interface.
I've searched around and can't find much.
Can anyone help?

SolutionNote there is a known issue with certain revisions of the EMS/STM software that will give you htese symptoms.
You can update both EMS and STM to the latest revision and see if this helps, otherwise there is a workaround to stop this.
EMS Release Notes are viewable here:
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/diag/ems/ems_rel.htm
and hte STM Release Notes are here:

Re: EMS error message - CD ROM
run dmesg, if you get an lbolt, regardless of the xstm or mstm results, have hardware replace the unit.
It could however be a cable or scsi interface problem and you should work with HP hardware support to correctly diagnose the problem and take corrective action.

Re: EMS error message - CD ROM
This has dealt with the CD-ROM issue.
But now EMS is complaining about a disk!
Thanks for the help.
