ES40 env_current_temp

[SCSI Error]

Hi,

Could you help what's causing the high temperature?

I got a ES40 Machine with the same specs 2 CPUs 3 Gb of RAM

One has
#sysconfig -q envmon
envmon:
env_current_temp = 23
env_high_temp_thresh = 50
env_fan_status = 0
env_ps_status = 0
env_supported = 1


and the other has
#sysconfig -q envmon
envmon:
env_current_temp = 33
env_high_temp_thresh = 50
env_fan_status = 0
env_ps_status = 0
env_supported = 1

Could anyone tell me what's causing the high temperature of the machine compared to the other one. They are sitting on the same rack. I've open the machine and all fans are working OK.

Hi,

There could be any number of reasons.

Are the two machines the same specification ?
Do they have similar workloads ?

When you took the lid off, did you notice any dust build up on the fan grills ?

Is the air conditioning working OK ? With under floor cooling, the device at the bottom of a rack is likely to get more cold air than a server above it...

Just a few thoughts.

We did the server re-racking and still temperature @ 36.

Where in the ES40 does the sensor located?

Is it possible that 1 CPU is generating more heat?

Hi,

There's more than one temperature sensor...

Taking a look at the Service Guide, which you can find here:

If you connect to the RMC and use the env command, you should be able to see which sensor is reporting the high temperature.
