EVA presentment to HP-UX 11.11 Question?

We have an RP7400 we are purchasing HBA's for to migrate off SC10 internal Raid arrays..

Once the LUN is created on the EVA, what is the process on the HP/UX side. Someone mentioned
LVM PVLINKS? I have created LVOLS on our existing Raid using SAM, but have done little to touch the physical drives.

Our HP-FE will be installing the cards and drivers..

What is the sequence of events post install to begin using this space, in terms of commands from LVM ?

Re: EVA presentment to HP-UX 11.11 Question?

Shalom,

Normal process:

insf -C disk

insf -e
# For grins

ioscan
or
ioscan -fnCdisk

You see the disk.

Then:
pvcreate
lvcreate
newfs

etc.

Hello rex,

HPUX 11.31 has native maulti pathing, you dont have to use the pvlinks.

Dear Basheer ,

The Os is 11.11 and not 11.31 , so a native multipathing technique needs to be employed .

Re: EVA presentment to HP-UX 11.11 Question?

Make sure you add all four of the paths from your EVA to the new volume group, but don't pvcreate all of them, otherwise, there will be no failover pvlink paths to fail to.

If you have the cash, EMC PowerPath, VxVM with DMP, or HP AutoPath all do a better job at taking care of load balancing, failover and failback. Personally I have used both PowerPath and AutoPath. I like PowerPath better.
