Error when rebuilding the kernel
Hi,
I am running Tru64 v5.1B patch 5 on a Alphaserver 4100.
When I run the command doconfig -c SAPQA
I get the fillowing message:
*** KERNEL CONFIGURATION AND BUILD PROCEDURE ***
Saving /sys/conf/SAPQA as /sys/conf/SAPQA.bck
Do you want to edit the configuration file? (y/n) [n]:
*** PERFORMING KERNEL BUILD ***
xcr 0 not defined
xcr 0 not defined
xcr 0 not defined
xcr 0 not defined
re0 isn't connected to anything
re1 isn't connected to anything
Configuration file has errors.
xcr 269 not connected to anything
xcr 269 not connected to anything
xcr 269 not connected to anything
xcr 269 not connected to anything
Do you want to edit the configuration file? (y/n) [n]:
*** NOTE ***
A new kernel for this machine could not be successfully created.
Restoring original configuration file - /sys/conf/SAPQA
Any idea?
Thanks in advance,
Yves

Re: Error when rebuilding the kernel
I never saw that error. But what I would try to do is to boot the generic kernel, and then compile a new kernel without using the old configuration file.
Por que hacerlo dificil si es posible hacerlo facil? - Why do it the hard way, when you can do it the easy way?

Re: Error when rebuilding the kernel
Hi,
I've never seen that message either, but it's referring to a SWXCR RAID controller (KZPAC).
Maybe there used to be such a card in the machine that has now been removed...?
Cheers,
Rob

Re: Error when rebuilding the kernel
xcr is SWXCR RAID like Rob said.
Looks like hardware configuration changed since last configuration file was generated (does not have to be removal of SWXCR RAID, but SWXCR RAID is affected by that).
Booting system with genvmunix and creating new kernel would fix the problem.

In vino veritas, in VMS cluster
