Event Monitor Restart Notification

Event Monitor Restart Notification

I have several Integrity systems (RX2600 series and BL860c) with HP-UX 11.31. Since I updated to Patch Bundle 2008-09 and also to 2009-03, I get every 2 minutes emails from every system:

------------ Event Monitoring Service Event Notification ------------<

Notification Time: Sat Jun 13 18:16:36 2009

hp9000 sent Event Monitor Restart information:

Title: ia64_corehw
Command: /usr/sbin/stm/uut/bin/tools/monitor/ia64_corehw
Vendor: Hewlett-Packard Company
Version: B.01.00
Monitor PID: 12509

Resources currently monitored:
/system/events/ia64_corehw/core_hw

>---------- End Event Monitoring Service Event Notification ----------<

Because every system is sending them, I assume it is not specifict to one hardware. I have installed the latest EMS, but the problem still occurs:

# swlist|grep -i diag
OnlineDiag B.11.31.05.06 HPUX 11.31 Support Tools Bundle, March 2009
The systems are Integrity s11.31

I have googled but only found hits from 2002, which I don't consider for 11.31.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Event Monitor Restart Notification

Hello Elmar:

It would be more useful if you put the whole description of the event:

You can check it in /var/opt/resmon/log/event.log
(latest information is at the bottom)

Re: Event Monitor Restart Notification

Can you confirm if your environment fully fill the software
requirements about 11.31 March 2009 OnlineDiag ?

As you are installing 11.31 March 2009 OnlineDiag, you have to
install March 2009 SFM as the OnlineDiag Release Notes states:

http://docs.hp.com/en/15479/emr_0903_1131.htm

Also you have to install EventMonitoring A.04.20.31 or later and
ProviderSvcsBase C.01.00.01 or later to resolv successfully the
dependencies for OnlineDiag and SFM.

Here's my environment I cold-installed 11.31 March 09:

% swlist | grep -e EventMonitoring -e OnlineDiag -e ProviderSvcsBase -e SysFaultMgmt
EventMonitoring A.04.20.31.03 Event Monitoring Service
OnlineDiag B.11.31.05.06 HPUX 11.31 Support Tools Bundle, March 2009
ProviderSvcsBase C.01.00.03.01 Provider Services Base
SysFaultMgmt C.05.00.06.01 HPUX System Fault Management
%

If something is missing and you don't have 11.31 March 09 media,
the following mega bundle is available on software.hp.com:

http://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=DiagProdCollection

Hope this resolv your problem !!

Re: Event Monitor Restart Notification

Shalom,

I recommend that you swremove OnlieDiag and installing a different version. You may need to log a support call or pull it off an older Applications DVD

Re: Event Monitor Restart Notification

I am getting the same error.

HP-UX 11.31 on Integrity rx1620

I see a SIGSEGV in /etc/opt/resmon/log/api.log:

-------------------Start Event--------------------
User event occurred at Mon Jun 15 10:37:53.712162 2009
Process ID: 17563 (/usr/sbin/stm/uut/bin/.../ia64_corehw) Log Level: Error
Tool is exiting due to receipt of an unexpected signal (11).

SIGSEGV (11) signal indicates a segmentation violation.

Possible Causes/Recommended Action:

Internal Application error. Tool attempted to reference an invalid address. Usually a NULL or bad pointer.
-------------------End Event----------------------

Re: Event Monitor Restart Notification

Hi Scott,

You should doublecheck whether all of the bundles I mentioned
are installed. I hope the maga bundle can resolve your and
Elmar's problem.

I guess both of you are encountering the same problem.

Re: Event Monitor Restart Notification

"Release Notes for EMS Hardware Monitors on HP-UX 11i v3 (March
2009)" mentions as follows:

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Installation Requirement
...
...
As a part of stand-alone install, ProviderSvcsBase does not
install in the following scenarios.

1. If OnlineDiag September 2008 or an earlier version is
installed or selected as part of installation.

2. If SysFaultMgmt September 2008 or an earlier version is
installed or selected as part of installation.

This implies that an install or an upgrade to SysFaultMgmt March
2009 version or later would require an upgrade of OnlineDiag
March 2009 version or later and vice versa to ensure that both
the products remain fully functional.
