Event Restart Notification
Lately I receive several restart occasions that followed by error messages (fron /var/mail/root):
Event Restart Notification due to system reboot:
Title: disk_em
command: /usr/sbin/stm/uut/bin/tools/monitor/disk_em.
Machine HP-UX B.10.20 A 9000/785

Re: Event Restart Notification
The first reboot occurred when no monitor were connected to the machine.
I tried to trace the log files but couldnâ t find the reason.
Any suggestion where to look in?
I checked the follow:
/etc/rc.log
/etc/rc.log.old
/etc/shutdownlog
/var/adm/syslog/mail.log
/var/adm/syslog/syslog.log
But the only information I have is since the restart event and not before.

Re: Event Restart Notification
The message you posted is not an error: it is an informational message, documenting the fact the event monitoring subsystem has been restarted because the system was rebooted. At least in modern versions, the message also documents the PID of the monitor process and the hardware paths of the monitored disks.
It is normal to receive such a message after each system restart.

Re: Event Restart Notification
I guess this is the same case that you refer in your reply.
I can disable the process but I am more intersted to know what was the restart reason and I can't find log files that indicates it.
And again, the first reboot was performed without any monitor connection.

Yaron

Re: Event Restart Notification
This is not related to a screen (monitor), but a process (called monitor) that monitors the health of the disks as a part of the online diagnostics.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Event Restart Notification
Are these just the EMS notifications or is the system actually rebooting?
