Failback settings for EVA8000 wit HP-UX 11.31

Hello,
i think about the best settings for EVA activ/activs Array LUNs under HP-UX 11.31 with ALUA (Asymetric Logical Unit Access support / HP-UX release Sept.2007)
Reading that only this modes are supportet under HP-UX:
- No preference
- Path A/B – Failover Only

In my opinion it would be better to set it to "Path A/B – Failover/Failback" like it would be recomended for Tru64.

Any hints,tips,trends?

regards

Holger -
At the advice of an HP escalation team, we were advised to set all luns as Failover only and not use failback.

This was a recommendation made in 2006 on our EVA 5000.

Dave, your EVA 5000 was active/passive this time?

From the user guide:

Failback Settings by Operating System
HP-UX : Autoback done by the host
supported: No Preference, Path A/B - Failover
Only.

IMHO No Preference is the best setting here.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Good point. Yes we were/are active/passive, but that recommendation has not been rescinded even after EVA Performance reviews.

Active/Active is not supported at our old CVS level 3.028. It will not be upgraded as we'll be replacing the 5000 next month.
