Re: File on a CDROM

If you copy the file, e.g. by

# cp /cdrom/patch-delivery-13986.depot /system_space/

I would assume it takes several minutes (maybe 20, 30 or more) to finish.
It depends on the drive speed, but you did not tell what server you are using.

In a worst case or a USB 1.1 drive it may take more than 1 hour.

So did the copy start?
Was the file created in the target directory?

Why you say "it will not let me do it." - what leads you to this assumption?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: File on a CDROM

Where was the DVD created? What mount options are you using to mount it?

Re: File on a CDROM

There is no information in syslog related to copy command or cd-rom. I try the swlist command and here's the error message I received:

{clbsrv:Root}/cdrom-> swlist -s /cdrom/patch-delivery-13986.depot
# Initializing...
# Contacting target "clbsrv"...
ERROR: Cannot read 2048 bytes from source
"/cdrom/patch-delivery-13986.depot". Change the source
specified, or ensure the media is loaded and ready to read.
ERROR: "clbsrv:/cdrom/patch-delivery-13986.depot": exists, but the
information on it is corrupt. It is not tar format or it is
not the correct media.

I umount the cdrom drive and found out that it's a DVD. Are there any different option in mounted a dvd differnt than a cdrom?

It sounds like the information on the DVD is corrupt for your patch depot.

Have you tried accessing the DVD from a PC? Can you FTP the depot file from a PC to your HP-UX server?

Re: File on a CDROM

I will try to do that later. I'm at home and do not have access to the server today.
