Firefox3.0.10 Problems

I noticed this morning that HP has finally made Firefox V3 available, so I downloaded and installed it.

My first attempt at running it blew up in my face, so I went back and made sure that all the pre-reqs were covered: the required HP patch (which has to do with excessive CPU utilization - not core dumping), the GTK libraries (that are only needed for Thunderbird, which I don't have), then tried it again. Same story.

Here's what I get:

# /opt/firefox/firefox

(firefox-bin:26942): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: specified class size for type `Pan
goXftFontMap' is smaller than the parent type's `PangoFcFontMap' class size

(firefox-bin:26942): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: file gobject.c: line 1053: assert
ion `G_TYPE_IS_OBJECT (object_type)' failed
/opt/firefox/run-mozilla.sh[36]: 26942 Bus error(coredump)

Any ideas?

Hi Pete:

I don't have any insight but you might want to add your OS and platform to this post :-)

Shalom,

Firefox needs those gtk libraries, you need to install them Pete.

Re: Firefox3.0.10 Problems

Steve,

Sorry, that's what I attempted to imply - that I had installed the GTK libs when I said "made sure that all the pre-reqs were covered". Granted I might have been able to make that clearer, but it doesn't get much clearer than what it says on the http://www.hp.com/go/firefox page:

" You must install the windowing toolkit before installing Thunderbird. It is not necessary to install the GTK+ 2.6.8 depot in order to run Mozilla."

In this case it says Mozilla rather than Firefox, but Firefox docs are loaded with these mis-references and, besides - I did install the depot.

Re: Firefox3.0.10 Problems

The web page is wrong.

Firefox requires gtk. I created the depots NDS Technologies uses for all its HP-UX sytems requiring a browser.

Mozilla and Firefox started out on the same code base and have a lot of common requirements.

Nice talking to you.

In any case, they are installed and it still fails.

Re: Firefox3.0.10 Problems

Shalom,

swremove both gtk and firefox.

Then do one of the following:
1) Use swpackage or swcopy to create a single depot containing both products. Then swinstall the whole depot.
2) Install gtk depot, check the logs carefully for issues and then install firefox.

I ran into trouble when I did the firefox install, got the exact same error as you did and then did the gtk install.

It would not work after that until I ripped them both out and installed them in the correct order.

I also recall having to play around with the shared library path variable, but don't try that right away, I'm pretty sure the problem is firefox doesn't install correctly due to lacking build time requirements which of course are not in the depot.
