Firmware and Fibreutils

Dear all,

We have a setup of blades running linux in the following categories.

460C
680C
685C
25P
45P

We are running RHEL 4.6. Planning an upgrade to RHEL 5.2 or 5.3. It would be a great help if you can let me know what fibreutils and firmware version should i install on them?.

We generally do not install the latest releases of the software. Thanks for your time.

Ps: We don't mind having 5 categories of different firmware and fibreutils pakages for the blades as long as they are the stable versions.

Hi,

if you have a look at support and drivers section under each specific server, you will find the most current release for Redhat, ie:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3288156&prodTypeId=0&prodSeriesId=1842750&swLang=8&swEnvOID=4006

Also if you install the Proliant Support Pack for the same release of RedHat you should get the fibreutils included in that. I think it puts it in /opt/hp/hp_fibreutils or /opt/hp/hp-fc-enablement

Firmware is not like regular software. On each blade, I would install the latest version of firmware available. Blade is a relatively new technology and a lot of bug fixes have been released. You have five kinds of blades, you are probably going to have five firmware versions.

Fiber utilities come for HP branded servers (and I admit I do not recognize these model numbers) from the Proliant Support Pack, called PSP. PSP 8.25 supports RHEL 5.2. As I recall it does not support 8.25, though it should by now. Normally new OS support comes with a new version of PSP, which I can not find.

PSP is installed after the base OS. Though I know REHL 5.3 to be stable, I would recommend 5.2 for now. When a PSP version that supports 5.3 comes out you can use yum to update the servers.

I'm not supposed to install the whole PSP. I just need to add the HBA driver and the Fibreutil package. Now, how do i know the exact HBA in the blade. When i do lspci it shows me the follwoing:

Hi,

you could login to the OA(Onboard Administrator) and look at the relevant information for that slot if you are using ICLE or if using HP SIM login, select HP c-class blade system and the relevant chassis and blade, then click on the port mapping/mezzanine cards tab, and:

Hi, the output seems to say you have a QLogic QLA2312(or FCA2214), if you dont want to install the PSP you can go to the qlogic site and download:

http://driverdownloads.qlogic.com/QLogicDriverDownloads_UI/Product_detail.aspx?oemid=21, and that should work ok.

Thanks mate, How did you get the mapping QLogic QLA2312(or FCA2214) ?. This really puzzles me. When we list the qlogic devices throgh the OS we see this Qlogic chip. We don't see the HP part number/model number.

Also, can i have Fibreutils as well ?
