Free tools for HP UX monitoring

I am looking for freeware/ free tools available on web for HP UX monitoring.

Also any kind free open sourc tools will also do.

Meaning open source server will be running performance management software and each HP ux will be running client or agent on it to collect perf data.

Any kind of help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Best Regards.

Re: Free tools for HP UX monitoring

Hi Mahesh,

If you can spend money and buy HP UX servers and OS, I am surprised to think about implementing a free third party tool to monitor a prestigious product.

What ever avaialble as free is there in

software.hp.com

If you want to buy , go for OVPA and OVPM ( openview performance manager)

Re: Free tools for HP UX monitoring

Sooraj,

It is business situation. We are bidding at a customer place wherein customer has clearly metioned that commercials will be driving the bid.

Now customer is presently monitoring system manually, I would want to have some tools in place (even though if it is freeware) so that process can be set for monitoring and management.

Hope you understand this. If you know some free/open source monitoring tools for HP UX; please let us know.

Johnson - A big thank you. Will go through the site and let you know.

Regards.

Re: Free tools for HP UX monitoring

Performance monitoring only or health monitoring too?

For health monitoring consider to use SFM (system fault management) together with HP's IRSS/IRSA (Insight Remote Support) or SIM.

It's all free.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Free tools for HP UX monitoring

Performance monitoring with preferably ability to plot/display performance trends.
meaning should be able to not only collect and display the performance data but also store it for for future usages like trending.

We will be implementing IRS. So health will be automatically monitored.

Hope this clarifies.

Re: Free tools for HP UX monitoring

Hi Mahesh,
Are you looking for Performance Monitoring. If yes, then Performance Agent would be the best. From your query I see it (perf data collector) is already installed in the system.
Performance Agent is licensed and you need to buy it if you don't have. But there is one more tool Glance Plus that provides realtime system performance data. Glance Plus is free and available with HPUX OS install DVDs. Check if Glance Plus is installed already in your client systems. If not, install it from OS DVD.

Re: Free tools for HP UX monitoring

Hi Mahesh,

Check below info regarding PANDORA MONITORING TOOL:

What Pandora FMS is not?
=========================
â ¢Pandora FMS is not a tool for log analysis or/and correlation.Pandora FMS could collect this information but it is not made for being efficient at collecting and procesing a big amount of them.
â ¢Pandora FMS is not an analysis/correlation event tool. Same as with logs, it could recollect and process them, but again it is not its main function.
â ¢Pandora FMS is not a tool for intrusion detection or prevention, but it could be part of a complex one, reporting down machines or open and closed ports.
â ¢Pandora FMS is not a monitoring system in real time or a critical environments monitoring system. These systems are specialized systems and Pandora FMS is a general one. In spite of this, Pandora could work in response margins quite shorts (+5 seconds) and use redundance for critical environments. But, due to its architecture and design, Pandora FMS is not one of these systems.
â ¢Pandora FMS is not an extremely easy system. It requires a previous knowledge on computer systems. Pandora FMS is an extremely versatile and powerful tool that requires some kind of previous ability, knowledge and experience in computers. If you do not have time to learn how to use it, then it is possible that you could suffer from some frustration at the Page 12

Consider that the instruction manual has got almost 400 pages. But do not be afraid: lot of people have learned to used it reading only 10 pages!
