Garbage files are generating

Hi All
I have a problem on one server ES45 Tru64 5.1B
a lot of garbage file are being generated and i don not understand why it is happening.

Can you elaborate? Where are these files getting generated? When are they getting generated - While executing some command?

These garbage files are being generated in home directory of every user.
Files have name with long question marks ??????????
???!????
etc.

Strange. I have not heard of this so far. Can't imagine the OS being at fault here.
Could it be caused by some misbehaving user application?

Are you able to do 'ls -l' on the directory?

What does 'file ' give?
