Get updated TimeZones compliant with Oracle EM
I have an Oracle server running on hpux 11.11
Since the DST change (daylight saving last march), we have a problem with dbconsole which does not support our current TZ setting:
TZ=MET-1MEST
or
TZ=GMT-1DST
It appears that there is a new list of supported timezones values that our hpux 11.11 os does not (yet) know.
Where/how to get these new timezones implemented into our os ?
Europe/Amsterdam
Europe/Paris
Europe/Brussels
export TZ=Europe/Paris
would be nice /┬░┬░:))

Re: Get updated TimeZones compliant with Oracle EM
HP usually releases TZ updates as patches in the patch database.

Re: Get updated TimeZones compliant with Oracle EM
As new timezones are made officially available in HP-UX a patch is released in the form of a new '/usr/lib/tztab'. You can find the latest in the ITRC Patch Database by using the keyword 'tztab' in a search.
The most recent ones have been posted in February 2009.
You are always at liberty to make you own changes to '/usr/lib/tztab' following the rules defined in the 'tztab(4)' manpages.
Be aware, though, that if you modify '/usr/lib/tztab' the subsequent application of an official patch will be incomplete. That is, the newly delivered patch will be left in '/usr/newconfig/usr/lib/tztab' rather than installed there and copied to replace '/usr/lib/tztab'.
Regards!

Re: Get updated TimeZones compliant with Oracle EM
It is illegal to use GMT in a timezone unless it is "TZ=GMT0". Otherwise you will see GMT and assume that it is the same as UTC. Also randomly assigned timezones will have US start and stop times.

Europe/Amsterdam
Europe/Paris
Europe/Brussels
Perhaps Java has timezones like this but tztab(4) has the format: XXXnnnDDD

Europe/Paris
Europe/Brussels

Re: Get updated TimeZones compliant with Oracle EM
Linux, or Solaris, or MacOSX, or any other unix-like OS that uses zoneinfo-style time zone database (aka the Olson database).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoneinfo
HP-UX still uses the older-style /usr/lib/tztab. It is a simple text file, so it's easy to view it to see what's available, and edit it if necessary. The format is documented in the man pages.
For HP-UX, the correct setting for France should be "TZ=MET-1METDST". HP-UX tends to use six-letter DST timezone identifiers in Europe, because the four-letter ones would be ambiguous.

Re: Get updated TimeZones compliant with Oracle EM
As for why "Oracle doesn't recognize...." the timezone setting he's using, I've no idea, as I'm not sure what he means by that.
