Group name 1 char shorter than another system on ll and ls -al

I have 2 servers. Both are 11.23 and have group names the same on both. They are long names some 12 chars long some 15 chars long. On one system when you do an ll or ls -al you see 11 chars of the group name but on another one you only see 10.

What causes that difference?

Re: Group name 1 char shorter than another system on ll and ls -al

Shalom,

There is a long name add in for 11.23 that may be installed on one system and not the other. See http://software.hp.com for more information.

I would however check the alias on the two systems and see if there is a variance. ll is really an alias for the ls command and is set in the user environment.

Group name can also be impacted by being integrated into authentication systems like Windows domain. This is worth looking into.

It is the difference in ll between the systems. Great catch. I was comparing shells, but didn't think about that.

Thanks,
