Guest OS installation

Hello,
Can someone help me how to install RH Linux 5 as guest OS in HP integrity virtual machines?


I have managed to create my virtual machines but when trying to follow up on the instructions on installation of windows and rh linux 5 into the guest machine i fails.

Could someone help me, please

Do you use the ia64 version (not x86 or x64)?

I used rh 5 enterprize ia64.

the problem is that i can not get the fs: instead i always get blk. esp when i copied boot.iso and assign it as a dvd file to start the booting of the vm.

I don't know how you assigned the ISO to the guest, but did you use the vMPs "insert" command?

That is usually an ndication that the "dvd" is incorrect, either not an ia64 media file or some other issue

i used the hpvmmodify -P vm1 -a dvd:scsi::file:/ISO-images/linux/boot.iso

this is the command i used.

then i started the vm1 using the hpvmconsole -P vm1

at the vMP console i used the command: pc -on

I accesses the EFI shell by inserting the Co in the vMP console. When i start the efi i do not find the fs.

What command should i use to verify my dvd if it's a ia64 or not? coz this is the only DVD we have for installation of rh 5 linux enterprise we purchased for rh 5 linux enterprise installation.

Take the DVD out of the drive and look at it. What does it say? Does it say that is is for Itanium servers? Or does it say it is for x86_64 servers?

If it says Itanium on it, it should work.

It is says x86_64 (or anything other than Itanium) then it will not work.

hello,

I have dowmloaded the itanium 64 bit ISO Rhel 5.2 images for disc1.iso - disc5.iso.

Yet when trying to install into linux vm machine, does not gives fs.
What else could be the problem?

Note: i have HP rx8640 integrity server.
