HBA Firmware upgrade

Hi.

I'm just wondering... new to HPUX v3..

How can I tell what type of HBA I've got installed and weither or not it's at the lastest firmware version... How do I check it's version.

Same for any other firmwares the server might have also.. It's an rx6600.

I know machinfo gives me the following...

Firmware info:
Firmware revision: 04.03
FP SWA driver revision: 1.18
IPMI is supported on this system.
BMC firmware revision: 5.23

But Im just not sure what info that's for...

Thank you very much.

Re: HBA Firmware upgrade

Hi Patrick,

your server firmware is current.

For HBAs it depends on what you have, see

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3257037&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3257036&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=54#2927

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HBA Firmware upgrade

Hi Patrick,

first try to get the hba's device files

ioscan -fnC fc

fc 2 1/0/2/1/0 fcd CLAIMED INTERFACE HP AB378-60101 4Gb Single Port PCI/PCI-X Fibre Channel Adapter (FC Port 1)
/dev/fcd2
fc 3 1/0/4/1/0 fcd CLAIMED INTERFACE HP AB378-60101 4Gb Single Port PCI/PCI-X Fibre Channel Adapter (FC Port 1)
/dev/fcd3
then

fcdutil /dev/fcd3 will display all the driver and firmware info

have fun,

"ioscan" and "fcmsutil" will assist with the HBA information that you are looking for.

Re: HBA Firmware upgrade

Thank you all. That's pretty much what I needed... However, looking at the rx6600 drivers and software download page:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3257037&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3257036&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=54#29215

How can I tell which fiber card I'm using? (new in this job so ain't got a thing to work with). Thought the fcmsutil would of told me, but not really... ??

Thanks again.

Re: HBA Firmware upgrade

Fiber channel cards are not the only HBAs with firmware - keep this in mind.

However, for most cards you see the model already in ioscan

fc 0 0/0/2/0/0/0/0 fcd CLAIMED INTERFACE HP AH401A 8Gb Dual Port PCIe Fibre Channel Adapter (FC Port 1)
/dev/fcd0

or by running

# fcmsutil /dev/fcd0 vpd

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: HBA Firmware upgrade

Torsten, I also thought ioscan would tell me, but no...

From the HP firware download page, I've got either the FC2143 or the FC2243 HBA.

ioscan tells me this:

Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
================================================================
fc 0 0/3/1/0 fcd CLAIMED INTERFACE HP AB379-60101 4Gb Dual Port PCI/PCI-X Fibre Channel Adapter (FC Port 1)
/dev/fcd0
fc 1 0/3/1/1 fcd CLAIMED INTERFACE HP AB379-60101 4Gb Dual Port PCI/PCI-X Fibre Channel Adapter (FC Port 2)
/dev/fcd1
fc 2 0/7/1/0 fcd CLAIMED INTERFACE HP AB379-60101 4Gb Dual Port PCI/PCI-X Fibre Channel Adapter (FC Port 1)
/dev/fcd2
fc 3 0/7/1/1 fcd CLAIMED INTERFACE HP AB379-60101 4Gb Dual Port PCI/PCI-X Fibre Channel Adapter (FC Port 2)
/dev/fcd3

So I'm not sure what it should be...

Re: HBA Firmware upgrade

What happens if you run

# fcmsutil /dev/fcd0 vpd

This looks like the correct firmware:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=1824064&prodTypeId=329290&prodSeriesId=432322&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=54

It's from 2007 already.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
