Re: HFS FILE SYSTEM

Hi:

The /stand directory was implemented in the 10.0 release. It contains the kernel code and I/O mapping information required at boot. /stand is always created to reside on the first logical volume of the boot disk.

The reason /stand must be an HFS filesystem is simply that hpux, the secondary system loader, is responsible for loading the kernel from the boot filesystem and transferring control to it. In order for it to load the kernel, it must have knowledge of the disk layout of the filesystem from which hpux is booting. By restricting /stand to an HFS layout, the job of this secondary loader code is simply easier.
