have a quick tar extraction question

Have a tar file, created with a full path in it..

I want to extract to specific subdirectory rather then the full path extraction.. Is there a way to do this and if yes, how?

PS I used -cvf to create the tar

With regular HP-UX tar, no.

However, you can use pax to do read the tar file and do what you want.

Have a look at the pax man page for examples.
