HP MSL6000 Series tape drive errors
Is it truly the "nature of the beast" to have the following errors on the HP SDLT600 drives at least 3 times each and evey week. The error reads as folllows:
The number of read and write errors since clean for drive [HP SDLT600_1] in library [HP MSL6000 Series] has exceeded its threshold.
I know that we have the threshold set at a certain number but this seems to continually happen to this drives. As I look at the backup software program that we use it never seems to report that the drive was actually cleaned either.

Re: HP MSL6000 Series tape drive errors
Hi,
What backup software are you using ?
I know some software is unable to use the dedicated cleaning slot in the MSL, and instead requires you to allocate one of the normal slots to a cleaning tape...
Does the message go away if you do a manual clean of the drive from the front panel ?
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Rob

Re: HP MSL6000 Series tape drive errors
We are using Commvault for our backups and yes we did designate a slot for the cleaning tape. If I do a manual clean the drive will clean but after a day or so we will receive the message again.

Hi,
Are you sure your cleaning tape is OK ?
They're only good for 20 cleaning cycles...
Cheers,
Rob
