SolutionNew standard is Ultrium 3 drives, which can hold up to 800 GB compressed if I'm not mistaken.
You can get a 2U or 3U rack mount that can hold up to three drives.
Its really a good solution, though the tapes are expensive.
I've never thought of tape drives as sexy, but this solution is going to run you around $10K plus tape stock.

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/tapearray5300/index.html?jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
and put some drives in it. See the specs for supported models. It supports DLT, DDS and Ultrium (even hot swap), but IMHO a DDS is enough for ignite backups.
BTW, it comes with a white _and_ a carbon colored bezel, so you have the choice...
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: HP Tape Device Recommendations
We us the HP 5300 tape array (holds up to 4 DDS drives) and it works great. We have 3 different systems connected to 3 different DDS4 drives in the array. I would highly recommend this to anyone, especially for IGNITEs

Re: HP Tape Device Recommendations
Heck, I've still got several DLT4000 tape drives that I'm using for make_tape_recovery backups.
But if you want something newer, and the budget can handle it, then I would look at the DDS4's. I think those will be fast enough and have enough capacity for your make_tape_recovery's.
I think an LTO3 would be overkill for what you require. Those are going to be very pricy and I don't think you need that much storage for a (hopefully) VG00 only backup.

Re: HP Tape Device Recommendations
1 1U Rackmount kit A7445B, supports 2 internal half height drives
2 Q1522B StorageWorks DAT 72 internal tape drives
2 SCSI cables C2979B
Again, this is a rack mount solution for make_tape_recovery for 2 rp3410s.
Anyone running something similar? Also, any resellers out there?
TIA

Re: HP Tape Device Recommendations
I think it's against Forum guidelines for resellers to actively attempt to push their wares on ITRC. If you'd like, I can give you names, addresses, numbers of some. Just email me at the address in my profile.

I still like Ultrium 3 drives though.
