HP UX 11.31 (09/03) Media Sets

I received 4 DVD's from HP as follows:
A. HP UX 11i V3 (Base OS) Released 09/03 DVD1#2
B. HP UX 11i V3 (Base OS) Released 09/03 DVD2#2
C. HP UX 11i V3 (VSOE) Released 09/03 DVD1#2
D. HP UX 11i V3 (VSOE) Released 09/03 DVD2#2

My questions are as follows and I would like to hear from the guys who have used this exact same media. My objective is to install an Itanium server with bunch of VM's.

1. Does #A contains Enterprise OS?
2. Does #C contains VSOE and Enterprise OS, both?
3. What OS is there in #C?
4. Do I need DVD 2#2 of both media sets to complete the base install?
5. After doing make_depot via NFS CDROM, the installation reported bunch of errors complaining about missing software's, such as HPUX-MailServer, which lives on DVD2#2.

I have spent over two days and getting no help from HP. I would appreciate some help.

See

http://docs.hp.com/en/5992-5795/ch01s03.html

You only need

C. HP UX 11i V3 (VSOE) Released 09/03 DVD1#2
D. HP UX 11i V3 (VSOE) Released 09/03 DVD2#2

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

1) No. The Base OS is just that, the BASE operating system. It does NOT contain things like MirrorDisk or OnlineJFS.

2. Kind of. Components of the Enterprise OE are contained in the VSOE.

3. Look here: http://h20338.www2.hp.com/hpux11i/cache/585225-0-0-0-121.html

4. Probably. Why else would it be included?
5. See #4

The Operating Environments have been redone for HP-UX 11iv3.

The URL above gives a pretty good overview of what is included in each OE.

Does that answer your questions?

Re: HP UX 11.31 (09/03) Media Sets

Thank you all, this helps a lot.
One last question?

How do I make the DVD#2 dependencies visible in DVD#1? I mean when DVD#1 install throws an error for HPUX-MailServer which lives on DVD#2, how do I avoid this? FYI, I mounted the DVD over NFS and created two separate depots for each DVD.

Thanks
Torsten.

Re: HP UX 11.31 (09/03) Media Sets

After copying contents from DVD#2 over on DVD#1, it overwrites the INDEX file which is used by make_config. So cold install dont see any environment configuration which made me replace the INDEX file from DVD#1.

Here is the where I stand now.

If I use the catalog/INDEX file through make_config from DVD#1, it complaints about missing software from DVD#2.

If I cat DVD#2/catalog/INDEX >> DVD#1/catalog/INDEX then it complaints about duplicates.

I am pretty mad at how HP has packaged their product together.

I would appreciate further help.
