HP-UX 11i installation

I installed my C3600 workstation by using the first installation CDROM and could not find the second one. Now I could not start CDE. I installed Ximian GNOME and it did not work either and told me "I couldnot start the X server....rerun the X configuration program."...My problem is I do not have xconfig binary due to the lack of the second installation CD. Any help?
Thanks.

So you installed using only 1 of 2 required CDs and you expect to have a functioning system?

There is no telling what other binaries are also missing.

The "solution" is to find the 2nd install CD so you can correctly and completely install HP-UX. Otherwise you are just going to be spinning your wheels.

Re: HP-UX 11i installation

Thank you!
I know the best way is to find the second disc. However, it is a surplus machine and I tried hard without any result. The reason why the Disc 1 is still there because it stayed in the CDROM slot when I found the machine.

Re: HP-UX 11i installation

HP does not allow installation CDs to be downloaded, and copying them would be a copyright violation.

Fortunately, ownership of a workstation is a valid proof of license, so your only problem is getting a media kit.

Your options are:
- ask from where you got the workstation from
or
- search for HP-UX media kits in eBay etc.

Note that HP-UX "11i" is ambiguous: it may mean either 11i v1 (11.11), 11i v2 (11.23) or 11i v3 (11.31).

Re: HP-UX 11i installation

Shalom,

You can with sufficient space on another HP-UX system, use swcopy to copy all the contents of both CD's to a shared install point.

But you are going to need that CD.

No downloads allowed.

Do you have a LTU, License to Use your system?

Seems some homework is not done.

If you have a software support agreement you can obtain the second CD/DVD by mail.
