Re: HP-UX 11i v1 booting problem

hi try

#vgchange -a y -q n vg00

perhaps there is a Failure of the disks.

also show
#ioscan -fnCdisk

also do a
#lvdisplay -v /dev/vg00/lvol3

to know the alt boot disk if any.

Hi Sujit,

The output of the cmds are down, i need to ask you if the following has anything to do with the problem, it is displayed after hpux -lm execution (and before the prompt is reached)

Refer to the appendix of When_Good_Disks_Go_bad

and the manpages of the command lvsplit(1M) and lvmerge(1M).

HI

the messsage that you said might be due to the corruption in the LVM information regarding the root boot and wap config, that can possibly be set using the list og lvlnboot command as said earlier,
the other part i would like to suugest is to use

on the BCH Main menu> boot alt

or BCH MAIN MENU>SEarch
Boot using pX for the path

P0 0/0/2/0.0 ide.0 Random access media 0 --- DVD rom

P1 0/1/1/0.1 intscsia.1 Random access media 0 -- primary path

P2 0/1/1/0.0 intscsia.0 Random access media 0 -- can be alternate path

P3 0/1/1/1.2 intscsib.2 Random access media 0 -- can be altrnate path

you can try booting using the Suspected alternate path giving the syntax after the search command
as

boot 0/1/1/0.1
or
boot 0/1/1/1.2

If you have an older record of the VG vg00 like earlier Nickel then that can be helpful

Re: HP-UX 11i v1 booting problem

vgchange hangs
This seems to be a serious H/W issue and you might need to replace the disk.

Re: HP-UX 11i v1 booting problem

You could check if the disk is perfect via booting from the recovery CD and running fsck on the disk. If this hangs then surely H/W needs to be checked.

Re: HP-UX 11i v1 booting problem

Hi Sujit,
I used # hpux -lm -lq as you said before
and that time when i executed the
# vgchange -a y -q n vg00
it was successful,

while executing the fsck, i got the following
# #########################################

# fsck /dev/vg00/lvol1
fsck: /dev/vg00/lvol1: possible swap device (cannot determine)

continue (y/n)? y
** /dev/vg00/lvol1
** Last Mounted on /stand
** Phase 1 - Check Blocks and Sizes
** Phase 2 - Check Pathnames
** Phase 3 - Check Connectivity
** Phase 4 - Check Reference Counts
** Phase 5 - Check Cyl groups
176 files, 0 icont, 10638 used, 28704 free (256 frags, 3556 blocks)
***** MARKING FILE SYSTEM CLEAN *****

***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****

# #######################################

At the mount step, i got the following

# ########################################

# mount -a
vxfs mount: /dev/vg00/usrvol is corrupted. needs checking
vxfs mount: Cannot open /dev/vg01/lvol2: No such device or address
vxfs mount: Cannot open /dev/vg01/lvol1: No such device or address
# ########################################

Any recommendation?
