HP UX Syntax error at line 1 : `(' is not expected.

# /sbin/init.d/inetd start
/sbin/init.d/inetd[38]: Syntax error at line 1 : `(' is not expected.

I am getting the above error message while starting the daemon Also hostname also showing unknown. not able to telnet to the server.

38 . /etc/rc.config

This indicates you have a garbage file in /etc/rc.config.d/. Don't leave "backup" or other files there.
