Re: HP UX V 8.0

As far as I know you will NOT find it.

HP-UX version 8.0 has been OUT OF SUPPORT for a VERY LONG TIME (maybe 20 years??).

Only recently has HP started making some versions of HP-UX available, but those are only the most current SUPPORTED versions.

Re: HP UX V 8.0

You ARE joking, aren't you?
HP-UX 8.x was releaed way back around 1990 or something like that. It has been out of support for more than a deacde!.
And there has never been a downloadable version of HP-UX

Re: HP UX V 8.0

My friends, unfortunately I'm not kidding, here in Brazil we have a device that runs on HP UX 8.0,
I ask you this software or impossible.

Unless you are lucky and find someone with the install media, which was probably tapes, **MAYBE** CDs, I would say: impossible.

Re: HP UX V 8.0

The problem you face is that it simply isn't available "for download" and never was.

HP-UX 8.0 was out of support by the time I first saw an HP-UX box (1995 - 9.02).

Whatever is running on that box, it should have been replaced several times over by now, in order to be on supported hardware and a supported OS.

I fear you are now tragically out of luck, and whatever issue you are facing that requires this, you will not be able to recover from

Considering that VMS V8.0 was not released
generally to customers, it seems a pretty
unlikely mistake to make. (For most people,
that is.)

Re: HP UX V 8.0

Hey,

you might find NetBSD a well suited current OS for the kind of hardware anything that 8.x actually worked on.
yesterday I stood at the edge. Today I'm one step ahead.

What type of computer was this?
If not a computer per se, perhaps Agilent may know?

Re: HP UX V 8.0

Honestly, I doubt anyone will be able to help you getting 8.0.

If you're talking here about an old workstation that runs a manufacturing device on the shop floor, better call its vendor, assuming they're still there, to get an upgrade done.

yeah, but do they have a modern (comparable) replacement)?

At this point, you're going to need new hardware AND software. You're not talking about support....you need to replace it with something that will do the same job.

I mean really, this is not the kind of thing that you ignore and forget about for two decades. Wake up ten years later like Rumplestilskin and freak out because the whole world is different, and your still living on a 8 bit Motorola CPU.

I was asking you what the device was.

Re: HP UX V 8.0

hmm....sounds like it *might* be some kind of Seimen's controller, running on 705/710/720...which would make it 8.05 and very early PA-RISC.

in any event, you might see if the OEM makes a replacement / upgrade controller. If you can't find a replacement, you could wind up replacing not on the controller, but potentially whatever it *controlled* as well.

Re: HP UX V 8.0

You really need to accept that you have ancient hardware and Operating System version.

Re: HP UX V 8.0

I have to admit I ve never seen HPUX v8.
My 1st encounter was with 9.x

This version is quite old :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HP-UX
and was probably on a cpu prior to PA (ie motorola)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HP_9000

Furthermore, would this be Y2K compliant ???

Re: HP UX V 8.0

It was NOT y2k compliant, but could have been on a PA-RISC workstation or a Motorola workstation, neither of which will be supported by now
