HP-UX Workstation issue

Hi,

A HP-UX CDE workstation installed with x-windows is connected to the network. On opening a session on the workstation opens a session on the server instead of on the workstation.

Please tell what could be cause for this.

Thanks

Re: HP-UX Workstation issue

John,
Do you have CDE running on that server as well ? If Yes and if you are opening a session from your desktop, make sure that you have the right IP address....

Please confirm this

Re: HP-UX Workstation issue

Hi,

Server is K-370 model, I do not think CDE is running on the server.

Thanks

Re: HP-UX Workstation issue

John,
I don't think thats possible. The best suggest would be

1. Check on your desktop from where you are starting a session and find out what IP address you have ?

Re: HP-UX Workstation issue

Hi,

The session is opened from the 'Personal application menu -> terminal' options from the desktop.

Thanks

Re: HP-UX Workstation issue

More than likely the DISPLAY variable points to the server, not the workstation.

echo $DISPLAY

change the DISPLAY variable to the local IP address and everything will work fine.

Re: HP-UX Workstation issue

Steven,

The workstation is an CDE env. While opening a session it opens on the server. In that case where to set the DISPLAY variable.

Thanks

Re: HP-UX Workstation issue

Hi,

When you have a session check on both the
workstation and the server the logged in user:

who -T

Then you know who is who and from where.

Re: HP-UX Workstation issue

John,
As Stephen pointed out check the DISPLAY variable on your workstation and make sure its pointing to the right IP address.

Re: HP-UX Workstation issue

Could it be the case that the CDE session is actually running on the server, i.e. by means of a X login chooser?
yesterday I stood at the edge. Today I'm one step ahead.
