HP-UX attached NAS

I have a hpux machin version v1.
i want to configure with NAS third party?

Any one with exprience???

You want use a NAS, which one?

Does it support hpux 11i v1? Does it support your NICs? Did you read any manul from the NAS box?

Is there any problem or is it a just in case of ... question?

With proper rights HP-UX can access or manage the NAS.

The system would need full read-write privileges on the NAS to manage it. root access as well.

NAS means Network Attached Storage.
NAS'es usually serve to UNIX Systems via NFS protocol where a filesystem on a NAS is "mounted" NFS wise by the UNIX machine.

So if your NAS is going to be "configured" on your HP-UX HP-UX 11.11 (aka HP-UX 11i v1) machine -- it is just a matter of having a filesystem on the NAS "shared or exported" and you as HP-UX Admin mounting it.

Usually though -- your NA vendor will specify what are the best settings -- i.e. what NFS version type, block size, protocol to use as the best.

Note your NAS can also be connected to your HP-UX machine via CIFS mounts.

Say -- will your NAS be used as an Oracle Database Storage on your HP-UX 11.11?

See below for a sample syntax of your /etc/fstab entry for your NAS:

nasfiler1.xyz.com:/bills /bills nfs rw=32768,bg,soft,proto=udp 0 0

The above is an actual example on our prod system (HP-UX 11.11 client to a fairly popular indsutry NAS Filer).

Of course you will need to have your NFS Client services enabled/active/started for you to "mount" or use your NAS.

Its third party NAS drive having a ip available on network.

All window system can access it and use to copy data and transfer files.

So for hp-ux v1 i need to configure NFS for this or wht things which i should in consideration before using it?

That is pretty muhch it sir. If you admin the NAS box -- then just create a share or export an existing filesystem so it will be accessible by your UNIX machine.

If a different person/group manage it -- then they'll need to provide you with the share name and you mount it.

Also, If you already have files in the NAS Filer through Windows, then you may have issues accessing the files through HP-UX.

we don't know what your NAS can!

Either your NAS supports NFS - then some can tell you what to do on hp-ux side - or your NAS don't support it, then you still can use CIFS mount - then some can tell you what to do on hp-ux side.

Only YOU can say us what you need, I think most of us have experience with similar configurations, but what shall we tell you?

Of course, the third party manufacturer should also be able to tell you what to do.
That would be faster, but maybe more expensive .... and there are still some details you have to do at the NAS side.
