I have been struggling with different issues on our upgrade of HP-UX 11.0 to 11.11.
At one point the upgrade did not install the LAN driver for our 100-base-T card. After some help I got it installed and just need to do a final reboot.
Right now the system hangs in bootup cycle for multi-user mode at "Configuring all unconfigured software filesets". The system will boot (thankfully) in single-user mode, however.
In the /etc/rc.log file it ends with:
Configuring all unconfigured software filesets
Output from "/sbin/rc2.d/S120swconfig start":
----------------------------
* Turning off all network based resolving services in
'/etc/nsswitch.conf'
* Setting up temporary hostname in '/etc/hosts'
* Starting temporary swagentd
* Configuring new filesets
Any ideas as to how to get the system past this?
Thanks,
Randy

Re: HP-UX system hangs on reboot
You actaully may need a nsswitch.conf file to get this thing to boot.
swagentd will not work without a nsswitch.conf file.

Re: HP-UX system hangs on reboot
Yes, I do have a make_tape_recovery tape and have already used in several times already for different attempts at the upgrade.
Thanks,
Randy

Re: HP-UX system hangs on reboot
how long is the 'Configuring new filesets' running ? do you have to stop it after 10 minutes ?

Re: HP-UX system hangs on reboot
What services were configured on your system?
If you have the backups, i would suggest for a fresh install (and not upgrade). Things will be much cleaner after a fresh install, and system will behave as expected.
Then you would have to configure the services which were running prior installation.

Re: HP-UX system hangs on reboot
As far as using the install method, I'm a little shy of doing so, because of third party purchased utilities that have installed themselves on the root drives.
thanks for your responses, so far.
