HPUX 11.31 nwmgr show MAC address identical

I have a question as follow:

as above,lan2 lan3 form lan900,why the MAC address is identical?can any one explain it?

Hello James,

That is perfectly valid state of affairs
when Auto Port Aggregation (APA) is
configured as link aggregate.

For example, here is a excerpt from the
"HP Auto Port Aggregation Administrator's
Guide HP-UX 11i v3":

QUOTE
A link aggregate has the following characteristics:

* The physical ports in the link
aggregation use the same MAC address.

The unique MAC address for a specific
link aggregate is determined by using
the MAC address of one of the ports in
the link aggregate. All ports will use
the same MAC address.

When a physical port is removed from a
link aggregate, the port's MAC address
is reset to its own MAC address.

It seems to me that the MAC address for each network interface card should be unique,am i right?Please correct me ,thanks!

APA and other software applications can change the mac address (in memory only) of a lan interface on your hpux system. When the system boots it reverts back to the hardware mac address unless some software changes it.

Have you checked thre status of the second server's APA? it may be that one of the pNIC's you think is in the APA configuration actually isn't.
