Hardware Path in HP-UX

Hi All,

What is hardware path in HP-UX ?
Other than disk and network cards, is there other devices where hardware paths are used ?

Is there any convention to interpret/understand hardware paths ?

all the hardware in the system generally has a hardware path, not just disks and lan cards.

All IO cards installed and internal bus adapters, disks, drives, usb, graphics, terminal devices, etc

Hi,
ioscan command provides the hardware path for the devices. If you are using HPUX 11.23, you can also check the output of print_manifest

Hi,

A hardware address is typically used for configuration and management of devices with ioscan being the most powerful command to observe it. Hardware paths are there accross the whole hardware structure of an HPUX server from the cell, sba , lba till the disk array. Hardware paths are there for tape drives, processors, memory modules and they differ depending on if you are using an FC or parallel SCSI. For agile address the authentication for a LUN is done by WWID. However the HBA hardware path is always,

Cell/SBA/LBA/Device/Function for cell based systems and there is no cell portion for the hardware path for a processor based system.
