How do I turn off processors in a rx4640 Itanium Server

Just like the title says. Does anyone have a "how to" on turning off processors in a rx4640 Itanium server? I have an eight-way that I want to reduce it down to two processors to save on licensing costs.

Thanks
Robert

From the EFI Shell you can issue the 'cpuconfig' command.

This will allow for the deconfiguration of CPU's by firmware (down to 2).

Basically run > cpuconfig 7 off

See 'help cpuconfig' for more.

Hello Rob, I have a rx3600 and had the same desire.
Hp Told me to:
1) Enter the EFI shell

2) Type cpuconfig [#] OFF (where # is the number of the CPU you want to turn off) (cpuconfig # ON, will turn it on)

All changes will take effect on next boot of the server.

To verify the status of CPUs, just type cpuconfig.

I hope this helps..

Worked perfectly Thanks!

if the "licensing costs" are associated with oracle and this system is running HP-UX11iv3 then be aware you could configure a 2 processor "secure resource partition" and run oracle in that - that would satisfy oracle's licensing issues and still leave the other processors available for any non-oracle processing
