How to change mail format on Tru64 5.1B?

Hi there,

This is HP Tru64 5.1B. The DNS client and mail server are set well. Thus we can send mail to client without fail. However, if mail content is UTF8, it can't be sent with the following error message,
--------
Content-Type: multipart/report; report-type=delivery-status;
boundary="iB72vJd292851.1102388239/hostname"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit
Auto-Submitted: auto-generated (failure)

This is a MIME-encapsulated message

--iB72vJd292851.1102388239/hostname

The original message was received at Tue, 7 Dec 2004 10:57:19 +0800 (CST)
from root@localhost

----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
me@mycompany.com

----- Transcript of session follows -----
554 5.6.3 me@mycompany.com... Cannot send 8-bit data to 7-bit destination
501 5.6.0 me@mycompany.com... Data format error

========

How can I do?

Hi,

I have got this error too some time ago. Where do you send the mails? To Outlook?
Have a look at man sendmail. There is a reference to 7/8BIT. You may also try to uuencode the data before sending it. Outlook for examples puts it into an attachment.

It still doesn't work. The key point is sendmail.cf. This is 5.1B. Does any document mention the parameter in /var/adm/sendmail/sendmail.cf?

Thanks a lot

Hi,

take a look at

/var/adm/sendmail/cf/README for it.

try to put it under the "message Precedences" portion.

usually, this means the mail input does not do proper MIME encoding, in my case, it comes from the Veritas mail notification. what's your email feeding source ?
