Re: How to configure eth0 for wireless on linux
Linux 5.1
You mean Red Hat 5.1 or a clone.
The wireless support in that release is incomplete. eth0 BTW is not going to be your wireless.
Don't go to windows, Ubuntu has better build in wireless support if the previous instructions don't work.

Re: How to configure eth0 for wireless on linux
So, unless you're wanting specifically RH or Fedora, (like you want to run Oracle on RH maybe) - you might consider switching. Both of those Linuxes Suse 10.x and Ubuntu 7.x and 8.x have different administrative tools, etc. You can figure out everything quickly enough with a few passes over web for relevant issues.
If it's Oracle you're after, it runs great also in Suse 10.x - so I'd go there first before I'd run to Ubuntu. Otherwise, I like both of them, with Ubuntu being my favorite. Also, Suse's wireless works - but by appearances, it's slower than Ubuntu.
Much as I like (really like) a RH install, the wireless issue is a pain enough to check out other Linii variants. And, from that, I found out that what folks have been saying all these years about how nice Ubuntu is are REALLY true!
