How to configure sendmail to use Exchange 2000 without any relays?

Hi all,

Recently we upgraded to Exchange 2000 and are having problems with internal email. Those going outside the company are OK. It seems that Exchange does not like sendmail using a relay for internal mail, due to security issues from internet malicous users.

How would a person be able to configure HP-UX sendmail to use Exchange? Would the HP-UX system need to be changed to use DNS (BIND) so that it becomes part of the same domain as the Exchange server? I know this is a loaded question, how is that done?

Any insights are appreciated.

Randy

Re: How to configure sendmail to use Exchange 2000 without any relays?

Hi Randy

1) If u have already configured DNS in windows server, the same service can be utilised in HPUX. It is not required to change DNS into HPUX.

Configuring DNS:
*) /etc/nsswitch.conf -> make dns as first and files as next.
*) /etc/resolv.conf -> server

Testing DNS:
*) nslookup

2) If u want to use, as local user (the users in sendmail)
Create an Address - as new Internet mail address, and give full address as email @.

3) The following links will help u, further more:

You could use the Exchange Server as a 'Smart Host' in Your sendmail configuration.
Also, it is possible for the Exchange Administrator to enable relaying for Your UNIX servers based on ip adresses or hostnames.
