How to create a pv on a 1 PB disk

I have been successful at creating a 16 TB VG on a FC SAN disk that I assigned to my HPUX 11i v3 server.

However when I serve up a 1 PB lun, I cannot even create a device file or a pv on that disk. I can discover the disk using ioscan -fnNC disk but when I try pvcreate it does not work. When I run insf -e I do not get device files for the 1 PB disk so I tried pvcreate /dev/rdisk/disk5 and that also fails.

I dont know if the cause of this that the LVM version is 1.0 or 2.0. I have applied the most recent QPK for 11.31 but that did not help.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: How to create a pv on a 1 PB disk

Hi:

The maximum PV size under LVM 2.1 is 16TB :

Hi Darius,

Have a look at the LVM limit documentation.
