How to identify LUN disk for volume group creation
hi guys, can someone help me, maybe basic question but need some advice.
I've add some new LUN's from SAN storage to my HP-UX server. ANd have ran the ioscan commands to show them on the server which is ok. Howver From the LUN - there are 4 disks for exmaple c6t2d6, c4t2d6, c8t2d6 and c2t2d6.
My question is which of these do i use to firstly pvcreate and then to add to the voiume group, I know they are linked, but which one do i need to use ?
Hope the question makes sense, please offer any advice.

insf -C disk
# If there has been no reboot.
ioscan -fnC disk
# Identifies the disk
pvcreate based on the information in ioscan. The 4 new disks should be the last 4 listed.

are most likely device files for the same LUN (need to see the hardware path for this), so you can use any of them to create your PV - keep in mind to not use the same path (controller) as primary for all LUNS.

Ok,So i can use any of the device files for that LUN, I raised this issue as I heard there was a primary one and alternate device and so I need to slect the correct one, but you defianetly say use any of the device files?
I'll keep in mind not to use the same controller for the other LUNS.

I think all 4 device files belongs to a same LUN(LUN number is same,again also need to check HW path).
You can use any one to create PV,but note the above point from Torsten.Later you can add the other paths as alternate.
