How to identify disk types on HP Itanium

Please can someone tell the command to identify the disk attached to HP ITANIUM 11.31 box is SAN LUN.
Basically we want to differentiate between local disk, DVD and SAN lun.

Re: How to identify disk types on HP Itanium

Have you tried "ioscan -fn C disk > output.lis

It should give enough info to identify internal disk (obvious by address); the DVD; and which disk is EMC's.

Just a thought,

Re: How to identify disk types on HP Itanium

In refernce to your below post

I could you have posted "ioscan -fnC disk" output are you referring to same server ?

>>Basically we want to differentiate between local disk, DVD and SAN lun<< what differents ? size ? HW manufacture info .. some thing like that ..?

you use diskinfo command to check that

# diskinfo /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0 -> OS vg00 disk which has been sliced into c0t0d0s1 c0t0d0s2 c0t0d0s1

# diskinfo /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0

# diskinfo /dev/rdsk/c2t0d0

Re: How to identify disk types on HP Itanium

If this is the same server, it has an internal hardware RAID "HP LOGICAL VOLUME" and an internal DVD. All other disks are on SAN.

Hope this helps!

Re: How to identify disk types on HP Itanium

also please take note as mentioned by >>Torsten.

device files will not change! which is important from "System point view"

hardware path decides about the order, which nothing related "System point view" so you no need to worry. only (device file important)

Re: How to identify disk types on HP Itanium

The rx3600 has 8 internal SAS disk bays.

Your servers has an optional P400 smart array controller, so you cannot see the disks directly, but the logical drives only.

Answered?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: How to identify disk types on HP Itanium

There is no "automatic" way to find this out.

You can be sure all disks behind an FC HBA are somewhere outside.

But you cannot be sure all SCSI/SAS are internal. Same for USB.

You need to know the server and read the ioscan.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: How to identify disk types on HP Itanium

We know that the system has 8 SAN disks and one local disk and one dvd drive.

But we want to know this from the output of some command/s which can tell us dynamically which devices are SAN luns and which are local ones.
Using o/p of this command/s, some other code has to determine disks types.

Is there any such command/s?
