Re: How to mirror root and data vg in hpux

Hi:

MirrorDisk/UX is a software product that you must license either individually or by virtue of the fact that you licensed an Operating Environment that includes it.

MirrorDisk/UX mirrors at the _logical_volume_ level.

You don't identify your hardware -- PA-RISC or Itanium so the procedures for mirroring vg00 will differ very slightly. See:

http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5991-1236/When_Good_Disks_Go_Bad_WP.pdf

Too, if you have a SmartArray raid controller on Itanium hardware, your system may have been configured to use hardware Raid for vg00, obviating the need for MirrorDisk/UX software for that volume group in the first place.

This is also an important document should you have any mirrored disk fail.

As for non-vg00 logical volumes, you should read the sections dealing with mirroring in:

http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5992-6576/index.html

Regards!

Re: How to mirror root and data vg in hpux

Hi,

First you need to check at your server that this software should be there to mirror disk.
MirrorDisk/UX

how to search
#swlist -l fileset | grep -i mirror

Second is check your server model PA-RISC or Itanium depending upon the model you need select the steps.
open the below link

Re: How to mirror root and data vg in hpux

Hi

You ask specifically about 'rootvg'. In HP-UX its vg00.

In HP-UX you have to use LVM to manager vg00. This is because the /stand filesystem has to be 'hfs' type.

Although vxvm is used on hp-ux, its only used for data volume groups. This is because vxvm has no 'hfs' file system type. Only the 'vxfs' type.

Re: How to mirror root and data vg in hpux

Hello,

Since you are talking about rootdg and not
vg00, it makes me believe you are licensed
to use VxVM instead of native LVM.

Mirroring in VxVM is as simple as (I assume
you are not running HP-UX 11.31 with
native multipathing, hence the examples use
legacy device special files):

a) To initialise disk under VxVM:

# vxdisksetup -iB cxtydz

b) To add the disk to the VxVM dg:

# vxdg -g rootdg adddisk rootdisk=cxtydz

c) To create the mirror:

# vxrootmir -v -b -R cxtydz

For non-root data groups, one of the ways
to set the mirroring is:

# vxassist -g mydg mirror VOLX mirror=enclr ...

But, before going further, are you really
using VxVM or LVM?

Cheers,
