How to monitor the hardware failures?

Hi All,

May I know how to monitor the hardware failure on HP unix? I know that the syslog will show vmunix keyword if any hardware problem come out, right?

Do you have any scripts template to monitor it?

Thanks for your help.

Re: How to monitor the hardware failures?

Hi Kenying,

You can get hardware failure (disk, tape, etc)error in syslog.log also.

#more /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log |grep -i ems

And you can also get it from MP.

Re: How to monitor the hardware failures?

check with monoconfig command, where to redirect your system hardware error or monitoring event restore

#/etc/opt/resmon/lbin/monoconfig

Re: How to monitor the hardware failures?

Hi,

in our environment we are using nagios,

and all HP-UX servers send snmp trap to this server.

monoconfig is configured, that all major varnings and higher will send dnmp trap message, the nagios send us sms/email notification about any incident.

PS : or you could install HP-SIM + RSP

Re: How to monitor the hardware failures?

Dear Kenying,

few options

1) if you have a standard HP contract, you can configure HP's rsp ( Remote support, previously it was ISEE). This is very good it does notify HP Support for any Hardware problems and they will call you and let you know there are problems.

2) As others have said, you can configure EMS and write scripts to keep paging/calling on your cell phone.

3) Please go with option 1) so you can have a life.

Re: How to monitor the hardware failures?

Shalom,

I use a script that scans the /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log file for key words like lbolt

That gets disk failures pretty nicely.

Good thread there for syadmin scripts that can do the job. No need to re-invent the wheel.
