How to recovey directory which has been removed

I've removed a directory with "rm -rf" with careless , now I want to recove the directory. Who can help me?

HP/UX or Linux, perhaps?

Easy enough. Just get out your backup tapes (you do have backups, don't you?) and restore from them. Otherwise you're out of luck.

You are out-of-luck. UNIX does exactly what you tell it. You can recreate directories with 'mkdir' but you need to recover their contents from your last backup(s).

Sorry, but HP-UX has NO CONCEPT of a "trash can" like some other operating system you may be used to.

If you have a backup, you will need to restore. If you don't, you are pretty much out of luck.

If you are desperate you could power down the system, remove the disks and send them to a data recovery company. They could attempt to recover your data for you and send it back on CDs or DVDs. This is quite an expensive proposition though.

You have run a very destructive command.. Always use -i (interactive), in case of using these command.

You need to restore from backup.

you can restore from backup, if you have good known backup of removed directory.

... or, if you/a collegue have a similar ws, you can try to restore it from there.
tar the directory at the good ws and tranfer/copy it to the bad one.
