How to set boot from SAN on BL860c i2?

I want to install HPUX on SAN disk EVA6400.
Do I have to set Fibre Channel Driver Configuration Utility?

Re: How to set boot from SAN on BL860c i2?

Just boot the install DVD, present a LUN from EVA to the server, rescan from the installer for disks and install the OS on the LUN.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Main point is that the lun should be presented to the blade from the SAN side they need to
zone it to your FC connector. Once its visible you can install the OS.

Re: How to set boot from SAN on BL860c i2?

No need to engage or be concerned with any FIbre CHannel oor Array Utility good sir.

Ignite/the OS INstaller is quite intelligent at ascertaiing most conifgurations that include drivers for Fibre Channel, iSCSI/Network Cards, SCSI cards etc for it to locate candidate Boot/OS disks...

Re: How to set boot from SAN on BL860c i2?

The most complicated task is to get the WWN of the sever if there is no OS installed.
Several ways to achieve this.

But if you boot from the DVD, the installer will search the SAN. After doing this, the EVA can see the WWN of the server and you are able to create a host entry in CV and present a LUN.

If you let the installer on the server scan again now, you will see the disk and you are ready to install.

Hope this helps!

Re: How to set boot from SAN on BL860c i2?

Server is in a C7K/3K enclosure so WWIDs of the FC-HBA (vConnect) should be easily ascertained so a pre-zone and pre-presentation of SAN LUN(s) can be done...

Sometimes (for Phyiscal servers/non-blade) the WWID of the HBA is on a sticker visible to the naked eye.

OR

One could just zone "hard"..

Re: How to set boot from SAN on BL860c i2?

If you search a SAN based LUN from EFI you normally don't find it.

But during the installation the install process is setting a boot entry in EFI boot manager.

If this is lost or whatever, you can set the EFIFCScanLevel, then the search will take longer, but finds the LUN.

Hope this helps!
