How to set up two screens on a PWS500au tru64 4.0F?
Dear all,
I need to add an extra screen to my PWS500au with tru64-4.0F, total two displays. The system is controlling some hardware that makes a live graphics inlay in a window, and the screen resolution is fixed to 1280x1024. Still, I need a larger desktop, and due to this restriction I cannot install a modern widescreen display.
I will scavenge the extra graphics card from a retired PWS.
Could somewone please supply me with a link to a comprehensive description on how to set up a dual display?
Though I am responsible for this system I have no deep knowledge in the system administration of this OS.
Is it more to this than modifying the /usr/var/X11/Xserver.conf?
Thanks in advance.
BN

Re: How to set up two screens on a PWS500au tru64 4.0F?
I have now gathered some more information,
I have purchased a second ELSAGloria Synergy card and installed it next to the original card, disabling VGA
I have installed PanoramiX from the Associated Products CD
I will try to rebuild the vmunix to introduce the new graphics device to the system.
Is there any chance that this will work?
BTW: I removed the "expert" star from my profile. I don't know how it got there, I am definetly NOT an expert in this field.

Re: How to set up two screens on a PWS500au tru64 4.0F?
I got this to work on 4.0F with two old tga0 / tga1 cards on my test system. My real system has two ELSA-Gloria cards.
What I did on my test system:
I installed PanoramiX from the associated_products CD.
I did
>>> boot -file genvmunix
# doconfig
.
.
# copy /sys/MYHOST/vmunix /vmunix
# reboot
.
# /usr/bin/X11/toggle_Xserver PanoramiX
and restarted the Xserver. Two screens worked fine, but slow.
When I did the same thing on the real system with the ELSAGloria cards I get no xlogin, /var/dt/Xerrors says this:
Fatal server error:
no screens found
X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).
Workstation device failure.
Cannot find loadable library to handle device COMET.
Could not AddScreen, ID = COMET
Workstation device failure.
Cannot find loadable library to handle device COMET.
Could not AddScreen, ID = COMET
Fatal server error:
no screens found
X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).
In the config file there are two new devices:
comet0
comet1
Has anyoune seen this before?
Any solution?
