IPSec on performance impact

Currently I have very little know-how on IPSec. We are planning to use IPSec on most of our servers. The main production servers are HP-UX 11iv2 & v3 PA-RISC servers with very heavy traffic on their Gbps network interfaces. (Especially between the two MC/ServiceGuard servers.)

I am concerned about the CPU usage and any possible network and CPU processing performance degradation after switching to IPSec and encrypting all the traffic on these servers.

Any real-life experiences will be highly appreciated.

Re: IPSec on performance impact

Shalom,

Encryption tends to be CPU intensive. I've found that use if IPSec has an impact on performance but is not a show stopper.

It is worth doing, especially for VPN configurations and Internet exposed systems.
