Ignite - Restore
Our hardware RX-1620 does not have an internal tape so we have to connect an external tape drive. In order for us to boot we have to boot from DVD and then restore it from tape. The boot DVD we are using is HP UX 11.23 September 2006 version however the ignite backup version is UP UX 11.23 June 2006 version. Our error is

Re: Ignite - Restore
What kind of tape drive?
Officcially Ignite only supports booting from HP tape drives.
Making the tape on a non-standard drive, MAY make it useless.
It would be better to use make_net_recovery and write your images to an Ignite server than use unsupported h ardware.
Other possibility: Bad tape.

Re: Ignite - Restore
We may not completely rely on the different ignite versions, one version in ignite tape and other one version in the booted client. It is unsupported I believe, HP always recommends to have the both are in same version.
It doesn't matter whether the tape drive is internal or external as long the the client could see the tape drive.
Booting the client with same ignite version DVD could solve your problem.

Re: Ignite - Restore
Agreed with Perumals solution, this is a very well known issue with a version mismatch between the version of Ignite being used to boot from the DVD and the version used to make the tape image.
Our recommendation is to make the two versions the same by either:
Installing C.6.9 on the system you are building the tape. If you have Sept 2006 application CD the C.6.9 product is there.
Booting from Installation media that has C.6.8 (June 2006)
NOTE: A common question is ├в how do we know what version of Ignite is being used to boot from?├в . The answer is to look at the DVD contents, the version included is the version being used to boot from.Ignite C.6.8 is the first version to support IA booting from the tape IF the EFI shell supports booting from tape. Legacy versions of the EFI shell did not support tape booting

Re: Ignite - Restore
To add some extra information to the reply of Prashanth, starting with firmware version 04.13 the RX1620 is capable to boot directly from tapedrives.
Quote from the release notes :
Added support for Tape Boot on Core IO, U160, and U320 SCSI cards in combination with the HP-UX 11i v2 0606 release.
