Ignite backup doubts
Hi
I have some doubts on ignite backup.
I am using different hpux versions like 10.20, 11.00, 11.11.
1) Is ignite backup software available defaultly with OS?
2) is "make_tape_recover" used to take OS backup?
3) How to find that the above command is available or not?
4) we can backup only vg00?
5) can we backup other volume groups also, since my applications are installed in other VGs?
6) what command is used to backup whole vg00?
7) If ignite backup software not installed defaultly, then how to install that in all above mentioned hpux servers?
8) Pls share your other important factors that we have to concentrate more before using ignite backup.
Thanks.

Re: Ignite backup doubts
1) It was not installed by default with earlier versions of the OS. It is with later versions. If it is not installed, you can get it off of the application CDs / DVDs or from http://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=IGNITEUXB for HP-UX 11.11, 11.23 and 11.31.
2) If you want to go to tape, yes. There is also the make_net_recovery command that lets you back up to another server.
3) See if the directory /opt/ignite/bin exists. If it does, make sure the command is there. If the directory does not exist, neither will the command.
4) No, you could back up your entire server, but that is NOT the intended use of Ignite.
5) Yes, but see #4.
6) I use: /opt/ignite/bin/make_tape_recovery -a /dev/rmt/0mn -I -m tar -t "$(uname -n) system recovery tape created on $(date)" -v -x inc_entire=vg00
7) See #1
8) Ignite is inteneded to be used for the backup and restore of VG00. I do NOT recommend using it to back up your entire server.
Have a read through the Ignite/UX documentation as it will answer a lot of questions. Docs are located here: http://www.docs.hp.com/en/IUX/infolib.html
