Re: Ignite make_recovery problem

Shalom,

Possible causes:

1) Hardware trouble on the tape drive.
2) Bad tape
3) Not enough free space on /var

Address the issue and it should be okay.

Re: Ignite make_recovery problem

I have seen this behaviour before.
Nothing wrong with the tape, nothing wrong with the tapedrive.
If I remember correctly, it had something to do with the exact size of the input file that is not a multiple of the specified blocksize.
I cannot replicate the behaviour on my systems anymore, but I am certain it can be resolved by installing OS-patches.
What OS version do you have ? I think I had this issue in the HP-UX 11.23 december 2005 release.

Re: Ignite make_recovery problem

this applies to san attached tapes only:

check if you have st_san_safe kernel parameter enabled, if yes - you can only use no-rewind device files

Re: Ignite make_recovery problem

furthermore make_recovery script is kinda stupid, and fails to handle properly anything but simple /dev/Nm or /dev/Nmn device files.. check your TAPE_IGNITE configuration parameter
