I have a new rp3440, and I would like to install hp-ux 11v3 on it. This machine has three disk drives and a Smart Array 6404 controller (A9891A), which I want to configure in a raid 5 array for booting/data. According to the manual, to set up the controller as a boot device, I need to boot to HP-UX using Ignite. I have an ignite server, but it is in a different subnet, and running HP-UX 11v1 (there is no way to put them in the same subnet without physically moving the machine). The manual says you can boot from the HP-UX install and Recovery DVD to connect to the ignite server, but I was unable to do this with my DVD (11v3). I could not find the ignite server option.
Sooo, my question is: Has anyone done this before and/or know a different way to do it?
tia,
Jason Martens

Re: Install HP-UX on a Smart Array 6404
First set up the smart array to have a valid boot disk:
http://docs.hp.com/en/J6369-90051/ch02s14.html#chddbceb
Now you need to configure an ignite server to install from - boot from install DVD and assign the ignite server as source - see
http://docs.hp.com/en/IUX
for much more information.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Install HP-UX on a Smart Array 6404
The CD or tape must be the same version of ignite that the ignite server is.
you can create a DVD iso image or tape using make_media_install, read the script /opt/ignite/data/scripts/examples/make_media_install or the Ignite Admin guide for more info.

Solution"...
Start Ignite-UX from the HP-UX 11i v1 Core OS Install and Recovery Media. The Ignite-UX Welcome screen displays..."
See my link above!
