Re: Install hpux 11.23 on rx2660 with no dvd-rom
Connect an external DVD-ROM drive? I have a
Sun/Toshiba SD-M1711 in a Sun 611 (SCSI) box
which I use with my rx2600. I haven't tried
using a USB-connected drive, but that may be
possible, too.

Re: Install hpux 11.23 on rx2660 with no dvd-rom
I then found out that you can do virtual media, I set it up, boot from it, but I dont know if it is working, I heard my drive spin up but that is it, I dont know if it takes awhile to load the image, it is now flashing at:
Loading.: iLO Virtual Media
Searching for devices
Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet (BCM5704) is detected (PCI-X)

Re: Install hpux 11.23 on rx2660 with no dvd-rom
> it would not find it.
I've been too lazy to try this, but you've
given me an excuse. I just connected an LG
GE20LU10 (USB DVD-writing) drive to a port on
my rx2600, loaded an HP-UX 11iv3 (11.31) DVD,
and started the system. After I gained
control, I saw things like this:
Shell> map
Device mapping table
fs0 : Acpi(HWP0002,0)/Pci(1|1)/Usb(1, 0)/CDROM(Entry0)
fs1 : Acpi(HWP0002,100)/Pci(1|0)/Scsi(Pun0,Lun0)/HD(Part1,Sig7C75A091-D2DA-11DD-8A23-AA000400FEFF)
[...]
Shell> fs0:
fs0:\> ls
Directory of: fs0:\
01/17/07 01:30a
01/17/07 01:30a 654,025 INSTALL.EFI
01/17/07 01:30a 16 AUTO
01/17/07 01:30a 243 STARTUP.NSH
3 File(s) 654,284 bytes
1 Dir(s)
So, I can see the thing, but actual attempts
to boot seemed to lead to a system crash
before getting past about:
HP-UX will call firmware in physical-addressing mode
A Toshiba/Samsung SH-S202N did even less
well. (One EFI crash, then no sign of the
drive in the EFI device list.)
That was educational, but not very
satisfying. Perhaps an HP-supported drive
would do better.
> [...] virtual media [...]
I've never tried it.

Re: Install hpux 11.23 on rx2660 with no dvd-rom
Try external USB connection option with USB supported DVD.
Try bootable memory stick
You can refer
Bootable DVD:
http://docs.hp.com/en/5992-6584/ch14s03.html
Ignite UX Boot from Memory Stick: Please use 8GB Memory Stick
http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01976113/c01976113.pdf
also you can try with booting from Ignite server ( if you have one)

INH

Re: Install hpux 11.23 on rx2660 with no dvd-rom
That is IF you have a license.
If Not -- ask for a temporary license from HP.
Next Option:
Use Network Boot and host your 11.23 OS/OE from another HP-UX server acting as Ignite Server/Depot Server.
Optical Drives are really no longer that necessary on Servers these days IMHO.
Favourite Toy:
AMD Athlon II X6 1090T 6-core, 16GB RAM, 12TB ZFS RAIDZ-2 Storage. Linux Centos 5.6 running KVM Hypervisor. Virtual Machines: Ubuntu, Mint, Solaris 10, Windows 7 Professional, Windows XP Pro, Windows Server 2008R2, DOS 6.22, OpenFiler

SolutionAUTOBOOTING...7 0 0x00006B 0x0000000000000018 unexpected trap
I think it is possible that your OS media is too old and doesn't support this hardware, that's why I asked for the release date.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.
