Install of 11.23 hangs on rp8400

Greetings
I have an rp8400 prev running HPUX 11.11. I am trying a cold install to 11.23 (6-2007 version on DVD). Shortly after the install starts, it gets to the *Beginning Analysis Phase, the last part of which is *Reading source for file information. It hangs on this line. I see no activity on the DVD etc. The prev line says: NOTE The filesystems in the filesystem table will not be checked against those currently mounted because the mounte_all_filesystems option is set to FALSE. This is 2nd try at the install. It sat for 16 hours on this yesterday before I started over. Any ideas would be appreciated. BTW - I did check the firmware level before starting.
thanks!

Re: Install of 11.23 hangs on rp8400

Shalom,

The most common cause of this is firmware. You have checked that, but upgrading to a more current release could help.

This issue may be do to bad media. Have you tried different media or newer install media.

Re: Install of 11.23 hangs on rp8400

Steven,
How would I upgrade the firmware? Also - I have only one set of the v2 software. Version 1 I seem to have many copies, but v2 only one set of disks.....
Thanks

Re: Install of 11.23 hangs on rp8400

Hi

Dave,

as far as FW upgrade for rp8420 is concerned i shall suggest you to get this done by an Authorised HP representative only as this happens to be a Cell Based System.

However the FWpage is here for rp8400.

Re: Install of 11.23 hangs on rp8400

Firmware does not come from the OS disks.

You download it and follow the instructions.

Re: Install of 11.23 hangs on rp8400

I looked at the latest firmware (PDC17.009) and this is what is currently on the system. I am trying another angle - using ignite - though I have not yet been able to see the ignite server from the rp8400. Doing: search lan install - only gives that ...table has been cleared...

Hi

could have tried using a different media and/or a different DVD Rom Drive.

Re: Install of 11.23 hangs on rp8400

Try different media.

Ignite the tool and the OS install are based on the same tool, Ignite. Ignite does the install no matter the source.

The simple fix here is a different install DVD

Re: Install of 11.23 hangs on rp8400

I only have the one set of media. I was able to create an ignite depot on another server - but could not get ignite to work (wet matches?). I tried a different tack - which was to do the guided install instead of the other advanced install (where disk partition sizes are set etc) - this seems to be working fine. The only things changed in the other install were the partition sizes were set optimally for my usage. No software selections were changed etc. Go figure....Thanks for your help in any case!
