Installing latest patches for HP-UX with oracle installed

Dear all,
Is there is any restrictions for installing O.S patches on a system with Oracle installed?

Hi Nafez,

I mean the system recommended patches that you got from the patch database by using SWAINV script.

Use the newer SWA (Software Assistant) to analyze, download and create a depot of patches for installation:

Re: Installing latest patches for HP-UX with oracle installed

Dear James,
I would like to be sure that installing the required patches(even with SWA),on HP-UX box with Oracle installed won't cause any problem for the oracle database.
And is there any official statements(from Oracle or HP) for the Health of this action??

Re: Installing latest patches for HP-UX with oracle installed

I have had very little trouble installing HP-UX patches on a system running Oracle.

The one things I almost always do is relink all Oracle binaries after the system has been patched, just in case any libraries changed.

Instructions for relinking Oracle can be found on Oracle's Metalink site.

Re: Installing latest patches for HP-UX with oracle installed

if you've downloaded the required patches, check if it requires a reboot:

# swlist -l fileset -a is_reboot -s DEPOT.depot \*

Re: Installing latest patches for HP-UX with oracle installed

Include in that list the patches that *might* cause a reboot (-s dynamic_module). Any module that cannot be dynamically unloaded will require a reboot.

Also, SWA and ITRC Patch Assessment share code. Each is better at certain use cases. The folks working on SWA are better looking of course... ;-)
